About the event

"The true meaning of the word INCLUSION means educating the world about other people's differences, not expecting those with differences to change to fit into the world!"

Chrissie Davies  is a passionate child advocate and working tirelessley to create more emotionally healthy families and classrooms. Part of her mission is to empower and equip adults with the confidence to teach children about the world through love, positive and open communication and emotional engagement.

She invited Carly Findlay in to speak to the Inner West community to talk about what is was like growing up as a child with a disability, and to share her thoughts around how we can support our kids to be more inclusive and accepting of people who are different to them.

Carly Findlay is an award-winning writer, speaker and appearance activist. Her first book, a memoir called Say Hello, was released in January 2019. "In Say Hello, I want to show parents who have a disabled child that there is no need to grieve a life lost – because their child is alive and can live a great life with love and support. I want to show readers how to be proud of their identity and their appearance, and love themselves even when the world has told them they have to hide. Representation matters."

Chrissie and Carly would love to invite any adults who are interested to be more educated about how they can teach children about inclusion, & how to approach people with differences. Telling your children to not point, stare or say rude things is not the answer. They would also love any neurodiverse families with ‘super kids’ to come along to hear from Carly about how they can teach & encourage their children to lean into, & wholeheartedly celebrate their differences!

If we really want to make the world a better place for our kids in the future, it starts with us having the knowledge & confidence to speak openly with them.
